What is Vibration?

 Vibration---

Let’s start our journey of learning first by understanding what vibration is. This basis will allow you to use your own insight to navigate the realms of consciousness ahead of you, without the need to be told what to do. If you can understand vibration, you can use that compass to direct your experience in the direction YOU choose, not what someone else chooses for you.

When we talk about vibration this way, we are talking about feeling vibrations, but in order to understand it better we can look at the frequencies of tones in music or of colors on the spectrum of light.

Each one of these notes and colors are unique and valid in their own right, even if some are higher on the spectrum and some are lower. Sound and color can also help us to understand that there are certain vibrations out of our realm of perception but that doesn’t mean that they don’t exist.

An octave in music has 7 notes, and the next note to the right of the scale is the first note of the next octave. A piano typically has 8 octaves next to each other but notes can continue to get higher and higher and higher infinitely. At a certain point our ears can’t perceive those sounds anymore…. But dogs can! Just think of a dog whistle. Just because you can’t hear it doesn’t mean the sound isn’t there.

Visible color is also a spectrum. In school as a child we typically learn about 7 colors: Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet. Or at least 6 of those (indigo is a bit weird). When working with paints you can make it into a wheel, since red and blue make purple, but when we are talking about light it’s a bit different. Each of these shades of light have a frequency ranging from longer waves (red) to shorter waves (purple), but beyond what we can see there are more types of light.

To the left of this scale we have ultraviolet, which is made of light waves that are closer together, and to the right is infrared, whose waves are wider. This spectrum is basically infinite. Even though we can’t see them with our eyes we can perceive them with scientific devices, and a lot of birds and bugs can see them and use them navigate for migration or find flowers.

What does this have to do with us and why are we talking about vibration?

Because your feelings are also a vibration, just like any type of sense information which gets processed by your brain. Being more aware of, first off, the basic human emotions can help you navigate your internal and external life very efficiently.

Many of us have been unfortunately trained to deny our emotions, which is honestly a travesty. Why would you eliminate such an important tool for reading the world? By becoming aware of what feeling state we are vibrating at in any moment we can gain a lot of knowledge about our thoughts and patterns, our desires, our relationships, our past and our future, and also give us reference for better decision making.

Secondly, its important to note that like sound and light, emotions are a spectrum--- an INFINITE spectrum. “The depths of despair” isn’t just a metaphor, it actually goes that deep. Or we could say, it vibrates that tightly.

And on the other side of the spectrum, the “positive emotions” such as joy, bliss, love, awe, rapture, sublimity, and on and on and on are what we explore when developing ourselves spiritually through meditation. A lot of those feelings are unperceivable to the common man, but as you expose yourself to them more, and shed the snake skins of the ego you can get there.

The first step in this process of consciously and effectively navigating through life is to know what you are feeling and be able to trust that you know what you are feeling. Why can that be hard? Basically, because our parents have lied to us lol, among other possibilities.

In the past history of humanity, there has been a need for a lot of repression and suppression of emotions. It has become a common practice. That’s why we see such a boom in the rates of depression as we continue to define and refine what we want out of our lives.

It’s not just our parents or the government who have lied to us, we often lie to ourselves. Not out of malice but simply because it’s what our subconscious does. It lies and hides aspect of ourselves in order to maintain itself.

The ego thinks it IS you, but it’s not. It’s simply a snapshot of who you think you are, and every time we raise our level of consciousness a bit, we tear that image apart, we understand that we are not what we thought we were. We are much more expanded and infinite. So, in a way we can have pity for these sweet little thought forms just trying to protect themselves from annihilation.

But we don’t need them anymore. The security blanket is starting to feel suffocating.
