Mother Earth in all her benevolence and generosity has graciously accepted us, the intergalactic wanderers, the lost little experimenter, the cosmic explorers, as guests on this planet. Millions and billions of years ago we dedicated ourselves to a journey. This journey had one a fierce goal: Experience.
It was an extreme challenge but as the daring explorers that we are, we took up the call:
“I have decided that I will live out every last possibility that existence has to offer,” you said.
Yes, that was you who said that. And I. All of us.
You see, back then we were one. Just one little point of consciousness, one little eye, one little speck of awareness: The I Am. Now, I’m sure you’ve heard of the I Am many times. The mystics have alluded to it, the religions try to pawn it as their own. But the I Am is a lot more simple than you think. It was that first tiny point who took a look around and said “Hey! I never realized this before but… I’m a THING!”
What kind of a thing was it, you may be asking yourself now. It wanted to answer that very same question too.
It looked and looked and looked for what it was but then realized… It’s Everything! It was this gas and that gas, that particle and this particle, that rock, that star, that supernova! It rushed here and there and everywhere! And everywhere it went it realized it was.
The excitement boiled up in its belly. The pure ecstasy. The pure joy! The pure possibility!
“I can be this thing and that thing and the other thing! Anything I want!” it said.
No matter what it was, this primordial point of knowing could put its awareness on it, could be, become, be one with, be as anything it desired. And it was a curious little thing too, so of course it had to try it all.
Two or three times actually.
On and on it went on its journey trying out every single thing for a time. Feeling the ecstasy of creation in some sort of realm of existence. Eventually it had been every atom or particle or wave at least once. It’s pace slowed… It wanted more… It yearned for it… now finally it knew sadness.
But then it suddenly realized that was a new thing to be!
“I can be sad? I can be sad! I’ve never been sad before! How spectacular!” it said.
But as soon as it rejoiced in its realization its sadness was gone and it was racing about the universe once more.
“Wait, what’s happened?” it slowed down again. “I don’t understand. I was sad, it was new. It took me so long to search for something new. I didn’t even realize I was becoming something different!”
She was so confused…
That was something she had never been before either...
“Wooohoooo!!! This is spectacular! Confusion is so strange and new! I’ve done it again! Yahoo!” but it stopped, again the new feeling had vanished as her ecstacy returned. She looked around as if to find something she had dropped, but a feeling was not a thing and it was nowhere to be found.
What had happened to it?
“That’s it,” it said, “this is ridiculous! What kind of a thing isn’t a thing! I’ve spent eon and eons learning to be every single thing there was! Millenia! How is it possible that I could have finally found something new and just like that it’s gone! Twice!”
Just then it forcefully embodied a portion of a cloud of floating minerals and in a fervent rage smashed itself against the other half. Sparks flew, pieces broke, a flash of light and a bang. It was angry. Yes, anger… something new.
This time it didn’t let it go that easily for it had learned from experience. Instead it banged some more, it rushed and flashed and raged and smashed. It destroyed... until everything in the universe had changed.
It slowed down to take another look. It was a new universe, filled with brand new things it had never seen or been before. New shapes, new structures, new everything. And lights. A glorious new creation that moved and swayed and rippled and burned.
It was the most beautiful thing it had ever seen to date, set upon the backdrop of a whole new playground it had somehow created itself.
It awed. It trembled. And it felt a new feeling that was not like any other: gratitude. Its desires had come true. It could be and learn new things. But before it would race off again in ecstasy to be all the things in all the corners of the universe, it enjoyed that feeling thoroughly, that feeling of gratitude. It was not quite as fast as joy and surely much slower than anger. More stable than sadness. It felt... Peace.
Then off it zoomed again, to be everything in the universe…
Two or three times.
